foto-giova-rossaGiovanna Buzzi, is an Italian Costume Designer, daughter of the internationally known architect Gae Aulenti.

During her career Giovanna Buzzi worked with three great theater Masters: she began her work in the theatre with renowned director Luca Ronconi. When later she moved to Rome, she started working in the costume tailor house ìTirelliî together with the great costume tailor Umberto Tirelli. She then become the main assistant of one of the most important directors, costume designers and set designers of Italian Opera: Pier Luigi Pizzi.

Giovanna won two “Abbiati Prizes” for “Best Opera Costume Designer of the Year”, one in 1990 for “Ricciardo and Zoraide” by Gioacchino Rossini at the Rossini Opera Festival, and the other in 2004/2005 for “The Walkure” directed by Federico Tiezzi, set design by the contemporary artist and sculptor Giulio Paolini at Teatro San Carlo of Naples.

In 2006 together with Odino Artioli, Silvia Aymonino and Massimo Pieroni has opened in Rome the “SlowCostume” laboratory for the realization of theatrical costumes.

In February 2006 she made more than two thousand costumes with circus and carnival themes for the Winter Olympic Games Closing Ceremony in Torino, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca. Through this experience she expanded her knowledge of the subject of acrobatics and circus performance.

Thanks to a successful collaboration with Marco Balich team, she also designed the costumes for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games Closing Ceremony (OCC) and the Paralympic Opening Ceremony (PCC), both of them magically directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca.
